Peninsula START Reading Project
(Sit Together And Read for Ten minutes)
The START Reading project is an initiative to increase the literacy of our children on the Peninsula.
We know that early literacy programmes improve vocabulary, expressive language, concepts about print and ultimately, the ability to read and write. We know also that reading to your child starting from birth, increases bonding, improves a child’s self-esteem and increases brain function; all contributing to a higher chance of academic success.
Young people who are literate and academically successful are less likely to become involved in anti-social and criminal behaviour.

- One of the books demonstrated on the above DVD.
- 2 information sheets with pointers on how to read age-appropriate books to children at various stages of their lives.
- A pamphlet on what to do to develop the literacy skills of a child.
- Information about the local library with application form.
